$70.76This remarkably stunning 2019 1 oz Silver St. Helena Chinese Trade Dollar BU is presented with a design faithful to that of the original Chinese styled Trade Dollars introduced in 1889 by Britain. During the later 19th century, British merchants had begun expanding trade into the Far East. This expansion of trading interests had long been problematic due to the shortage and inconsistency of silver currency throughout the Orient. Standardizing the means of trading was a high priority in their efforts to stabilize the British colonies in the East. To this end, the British Trade Dollar was designed and produced to be used solely for trade in the Far East.
Perhaps the most remarkable design reproduction yet, is the Chinese dragon image revealed on the reverse of this 2019 1 oz Silver St. Helena Chinese Trade Dollar is incredible! The detail clearly reveals both the creature's mystic beauty and fierceness. And, of course, the elusive flaming pearl ever hovers before its gaze and just outside its reach. The image is set within a circular center inset, encircled by a fine, beaded band. Fully encircling the band are the inscriptions "THE EAST INDIA COMPANY . TRADE DOLLAR." At the rim is a beautiful Chinese styled scroll band.
