What is a “presale”?

A “presale” item is not currently in our vault. This is generally because the item is brand new or delayed from our distributor. In these cases, the expected ship date will be displayed on the product page. Please note: if a presale item is ordered along with other in-stock items, the entire order will be delayed until the presale item is ready to ship. If you wish them to ship separately, place them on two orders.

How do I know your products are real?

We buy the vast majority of our products directly from the mints and other reputable distributors. We also inspect all products we receive for authenticity and condition upon arrival at our vault. Additionally, we are members of PCGS and NGC (independent grading services) and an accredited member of the Better Business Bureau.

Do you report my purchases to the government?

Accepted Answer

We do not report the majority of precious metals purchases to the government. That being said, we do have an obligation to file Form 8300 in the instance of cash payments over $10,000. Please note: cash includes cashiers checks and money orders with a face value of $10,000 or less, together totaling more than $10,000 combined. The $10,000 minimum also applies to related cash transactions within 24 hours of each other. Contact us for more details.

Is my financial and personal information secure?

Yes, all personal information is transmitted using secure SSL web pages. These pages are encrypted to ensure that no personal financial or identifiable information is made available to anyone other than you, your bank, or the processor. BOLD does not keep a record of your CC or bank account numbers.

Do you accept PayPal?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we do accept PayPal. It will be an available option on the checkout page if your order total does not exceed our current maximum for PayPal payments. See our current limits for the various payment options HERE. Note that the pricing for PayPal orders is the same as for credit card orders. To get the cash discount pricing, you must pay with eCheck, paper check or bank wire.

Do you accept Money Orders?

We ONLY accept USPS Money Orders (available at any local post office). Any other brand will not be accepted as payment and will be returned to the sending address. This is because counterfeit money orders are a very common method of fraudulent payments. The ones sold by the US Postal Service have security features and a consistent look and can be easily verified. We do not accept any form of Cashier’s Checks.

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, PayPal, bank wires, electronic checks (ACH), and paper checks. Paper checks include personal checks, corporate checks and online bill pay from your bank. The ONLY Money Orders we will accept are USPS Money Orders (available at any local post office). We will return any other brand Money Orders or Cashier’s Checks.

How do I place an order by bank wire?

Select “Bank Wire” as your payment method at checkout. Orders under $5,000 are not eligible for wire payments. On your confirmation page, you will see our wiring instructions and account information. This will also be emailed to you. Take these instructions to your local bank and initiate the bank wire transfer within one (1) banking day of placing the order. We should receive it within one (1) banking day. You will be sent an email confirmation upon receipt of payment, and your order status will progress from Awaiting Wire to Ready To Ship. We will then begin preparing your order for shipment.

How do I place an order by paper check?

Accepted Answer

Select Paper Check as your payment method at checkout. On your confirmation page, you will see our mailing information and instructions. This will also be emailed to you. Write a check to BOLD Precious Metals, include your order number in the Memo area of the check, and mail it to our mailing address. You have five (5) business days to get the check to us so please put it in the mail as soon as possible. You will be sent an email confirmation upon receipt of payment, and your order status will progress from Awaiting Check to Check Hold. Though your check may have already cleared with your bank, it can take up to seven days from the time we receive it for your check to clear with our Billing Department. In rare cases, the hold time may be longer. Once cleared, we will begin preparing your order for shipment.

Do you hold checks? If so, how long?

Yes, all electronic and paper check orders are held between five (5) to ten (10) business days after receiving your payment to allow them to fully clear. Although the hold time is the same, electronic checks (ACH) are faster because they avoid the transit time from your mailbox to our’s.

How can I get my order shipped right away without paying the extra cost for using a credit card?

The absolute best payment method we offer for orders under $2,500 is eCheck (ACH). With eCheck you will avoid the transaction fees for credit cards and get the lowest possible price offered by BOLD for the quantity you are ordering. Just select Electronic Check as your payment method at checkout. You will be prompted to enter in your bank routing number and checking account number to authorize a direct transfer of money from your checking account in the amount of your order. The typical eCheck order is processed within 5 business days at which time the order will be prepared for shipment. This saves 1-2 weeks on average compared to paying with a paper check.

Do you have minimum or maximum order sizes?

We do not impose minimum orders, but each payment method has a different order amount minimum and maximum allowed. Orders totaling $199 and over are eligible for free standard shipping (Welcome Packs do not count towards the minimum). Orders under $199 incur a flat standard shipping fee of $5.95. The table below lists what the min/max order amount is for each payment method.

Do you accept ACH or eCheck payments?

Absolutely! It is our most popular payment method. You can select it during the checkout process for orders up to $5,000. Above that amount, your options are to mail us a personal check or do a wire transfer from your bank.

How will I know if my payment was received?

Your order will remain in Awaiting Check status until your payment has been received by BOLD, at which time the status will progress to Check Hold. Once the funds have cleared the approximately 7 day hold period, your order will be packed and shipped. To check your status at any time, simply log into your account and navigate to the order in question. The order status will be visible from there.

What is bitcoin?

Bitcoin is a decentralized digital currency controlled by a massive open-source network of people. A limited number of bitcoins (21 million) will ultimately be created. Bitcoins are traded, much like any other commodity. After you acquire bitcoins, they are stored in a digital wallet, which you can use to pay for goods and services from anyone who accepts them. Currently, BOLD Precious Metals does not accept bitcoin (or any of the other alt digital currencies). However, if you are strongly interested in paying for your BOLD orders with bitcoin, please contact us. If we get enough serious interest, we may pursue it.

Do you charge sales tax?

We currently do not collect sales tax in any state for bullion or numismatic products. We do collect sales tax for other product categories such as supplies and merchandise, but only for customers who are residents of Texas. However, due to a recent Supreme Court ruling, we will soon be forced to collected sales tax for orders shipping to states that do have tax requirements. This FAQ will be updated with more detailed information in the future.

The premiums on our products are based on many factors including the mint of origin, the complexity of the design, the popularity of the product, and the total mintage.

Our prices are determined by the spot prices of gold, silver and platinum, in addition to our premiums for each product. Our spot prices are accurate to-the-second and are displayed throughout the website.

The “spot price” is the current market price for a troy ounce of raw gold, silver or platinum.

The Cart and Checkout pages have a timer that freezes the prices for 5 minutes at a time. At the end of each 5 minute window, the prices will refresh. Your final order prices will be locked in when checkout is complete.

When are my prices “locked in”?

When you add items to your Cart, there is a five (5) minute timer that freezes the product prices. When that timer expires, the prices will update based on the current metal spot price at the time. Once you advance to Checkout, the timer resets and your prices are locked in and displayed in the Order Subtotal. These prices are held for five (5) minutes while you complete the checkout process. If you take longer than five (5) minutes to complete the checkout process, the prices in the cart will update to the current price based on metal spot prices and you will have another five (5) minutes to complete the order.

How do you ship orders?

We ship all orders fully insured to the point of delivery, with inconspicuous packaging, typically via USPS First Class. To expedite delivery, you may also upgrade to Priority at checkout. Any order totaling $750 or more will require a signature for delivery. For orders less than $750, you may add Signature Confirmation at checkout for a small fee. This is highly recommended by BOLD to reduce your risk of lost or stolen packages.

Will I need to sign for my package?

Orders under $750 will not require a signature unless that option is selected and paid for at checkout. Orders over $750 will always require a signature for delivery. BOLD does strongly encourage you to add the Signature Confirmation option for your orders under $750 as it reduces your risk of theft or loss after the package is delivered. BOLD insures all our shipments to the point of delivery but our coverage ends after that.

What happens if my order is lost or damaged in transit?

In the unlikely event your package is lost, stolen, or damaged while in transit, contact us as soon as possible, and we will begin the claims process. If your items are not recovered, you will be entitled to a full reimbursement of the losses in accordance with the specific shipper’s insurance policy. Please note that our insurance coverage ceases after the point of delivery so if it is lost, stolen, or damaged after the shipper logs it as delivered, it will not be covered by our policy.

BOLD Precious Metals sells bullion in the form of coins, bars, and rounds. Coins tend to carry a higher premium as they are legal tender produced by government mints. Rounds generally have a lower premium because they are usually produced by private mints and are not considered currency. Bars also tend to have a low premium and are widely produced by private mints.

“Certified” coins have been graded and authenticated by the PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) or the NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Corporation). AU: Almost Uncirculated – This refers to coins with slight wear and circulation, as well as 95% of their original design present.
XF: Extra Fine – This grade indicates that the coin only has light wear. 90% of the design will be intact and the scratches and flaws will only be on the coin’s highest points.
VF: Very Fine – This grade indicates up to 25% of the original design is smoothed.
Fine: This grade indicates major signs of wear, with as much as half the design smoothed.
